National Garden Club Landscape Design School Series 35 Course III

NGC LDS Series 35 Course III was March 27 – 28, 2018 at Winter Park Garden Club, Winter Park, Florida.  District VII Landscape Design Chairman, Pat Richardson ( Clermont Garden Club) ,arranged an array of notable speakers.  During the two days, instructors shared their vast knowledge on various landscaping design topics.

 

Theresa Watkins, well known Journalist, Environmental Consultant,  and Designer spoke on “Herbaceous Materials (non- woody plants) in the Landscape” and “Landscape Design Accessories.”

 

“Landscape Design for Maintenance” was shared by  Lloyd Singleton,  Landscape Architect.  Mr. Singleton has designed  for Universal and the Breakers Resort.

 

Jill Long discussed “Design on the Land – Regional Expression.”  Ms. Long emphasized how typography influenced early American settlement.

 

“Development of Landscape Architecture from 1840 – 1940” was delivered by Dee Chism.  Ms. Chism is a retired History/ Government Instructor and FFGC member.

 

Richard Durr from Seminole County Leasure Services Department Greenways and Natural Lands Division discussed the “Purpose of Parks, Playgrounds,  and Conservation Areas. ”  Mr. Durr also encouraged our involvement in stewardship of our parks, playgrounds,  and conservation areas.

 

Christine Hite, local Landscape Architect and owner of Landscape Architecture Companies in various states, spoke on “Graphics Interpretation” and “Guidelines for Evaluating Landscape Design.”

 

Speaking on “The Role of Natives in our Landscapes”was Amanda Martin, Horticulturist and Landscape designer.  Ms. Martin expressed the importance of having native plants in the landscape.

 

Both days were filled with a tremendous amount of material, however each instructor delivered the required information with a sense of style.

 

NGC LDS Series 35 Course IV is scheduled for September 2018 in Winter Park, Florida.
