Dennis Langlois, State Registered & Insured Bee Keeper, was the guest speaker at Clermont Garden Club’s monthly meeting on January 15, 2020.

 

DID YOU KNOW?

Bees are Cast Insects.

Queen can have 2000 eggs per day.

Queen usually lives about 1 year, however some may live 2-3 years.

Workers, females, live on average 45 days.

Male bees, drones, do not work but mate with a Queen that’s not in their hive

Bee colony can be on average 60,000 bees.

Male Carpenter bees don’t have stingers.

Bumblebees male and Female have stingers.

Bees change jobs based on age.

Smoke keeps bees from communicating together.

There are over 300 species of bees in Florida.

Honey bees are not Native to Florida.

The colony is the living thing.

Bee Stages:

Egg >Larva > Pupa > Bee

21 days to hatch female.

24 days to hatch a male.

Clermont Garden Club members meet every third Wednesday of the month (except scheduled field trips, holiday luncheon, and end of the year luncheon) at the clubhouse located at 849 West Avenue,  Clermont,  Florida 34711.  Meetings begin at 10:A.M.  New members and guests are warmly welcome.
